While many of the testimonies refer to the pill as being abortifacient that claim is subject to dispute. However, the use of the pill is associated with an increase of ectopic pregnancies, which does result in the death of a newly created life.

When I was in College I had a friend named Sara*. She ended up getting pregnant and had the baby. She lived with her mom in a small roach infested apartment in NYC. Her boyfriend was very involved in their lives. He was supportive emotionally, physically and financially of Sara and their son.

My husband Alton and I married in the Catholic Church in July of 1969. During our marriage instruction, the priest told us that it was uncertain whether the Church might be changing regarding birth control, but we didn't want to take any chances, so we read a book on the rhythm method which my mother used when she got married in 1947. |

I am a 36-year old Catholic mother of three who is now practicing NFP. My regret is not about a surgical abortion. My regret has to do with the pill. A Catholic using the pill? Well, I wasn't always Catholic. In fact I grew up protestant. In defense of my parents, they did teach me that sex outside of marriage was wrong. But when I got older I decided that they were old fashioned and didn't really know what they were talking about. |

I was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1952 and grew up educated in Catholic schools. I am the oldest of four children with 14 years separating the oldest to youngest in my family. I graduated college in 1974 and married in 1975. It was a time when my Catholic faith no longer seemed to make sense to me and I gradually drifted away and became a non-practicing Catholic. At the same time all my close friends were getting married and so marriage seemed like the next step to take— or so I thought. |
